Vivienne Solís es bióloga graduada de la Universidad de Costa Rica (1983), con una maestría en Ecología de la Universidad de Lawrence, Kansas, EEUU (1986). Ha participado en proyectos de carácter institucional e interdisciplinarios de educación ambiental, capacitación y de índole académico en temas referentes a la conservación y uso comunitario de la Biodiversidad, pesca responsable y conservación comunitaria para las zonas marino-costeras. Las actividades profesionales que ha desarrollado en las últimas dos décadas se han orientado a la promoción del manejo comunitario de la vida silvestre y la discusión integral e interdisciplinaria del uso de sus elementos de la biodiversidad con énfasis en el logro de una distribución más justa y equitativa de los beneficios derivados de este uso, el co-manejo y otras formas de gobernanza que promuevan la participación ciudadana en la conservación de las áreas protegidas.

Fue parte de la Secretaria de UICN en la Oficina Regional para Mesoamerica desde 1988-1999 coordinando el Programa comunitario de Vida Silvestre, y el Programa de Mujer y recursos naturales. Apoyando el proceso para la elaboración de la Estrategia Nacional de Desarrollo Sostenible de Costa Rica y la Ley de Biodiversidad de Costa Rica.

Actualmente es asociada fundadora de CoopeSoliDar R.L ( Cooperativa Autogestionaria de Servicios Profesionales para la Solidaridad Social) organización que pretende: " Proponer alternativas novedosas para lograr que la riqueza cultural y biológica contribuya al mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de la población, con justicia y equidad, por medio del acompañamiento en los procesos participativos para la toma de decisiones, desde los espacios individuales y colectivos, a los niveles locales, nacionales e internacionales”.

Vivienne Solís is a biologist graduated from the University of Costa Rica (1983), with a Master Degree in Systematic and Ecology from the University of Lawrence, Kansas (1986). She has participated in interdisciplinary and inter-institutional projects of environmental education and training in the field of conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity , responsible fishing and communitary-based marine conservation efforts. Her professional activities in the last two decades have been oriented towards communitary-based sustainable use of wildlife, interdisciplinary discussions on the use of biodiversity elements with emphasis in the just and equitable distribution of the benefits derived from its use, co-management and other forms of governance that promote local participation in the conservation of protected areas.

She was part of IUCN Secretariat at the Regional Mesoamerican Office from 1988 to 1999. She coordinated the Communitary-based sustainable use program, and the Women and Natural resources program. She also supported during that time, the Costa Rican National Sustainable Development Strategy process and the preparation and approval of the Biodiversity Law in Costa Rica.

She is founder of CoopeSoliDar R.L. organization that has as its mission “ To propose innovative ways in which cultural and biological diversity contribute to the improvement of the quality of life of people, with justice and equity, through the support to participative processes in decision making at individual and collective spaces at the local, national and international levels”

A equitable, just and igualitarian world where we reached a balance between conservation of nature and human wellbeing.

The Women's Major Group (WMG) was created as one of nine Major Groups after the 1992 UN Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro. This list serve is for members of the Women Major Group following the Post Rio+20 process (Financing SD, SDGs-post2015) as well as for members of the Women Major Group following Environment processes (UNEP). The Operating Partners (OPs) of the Post Rio+20 process that coordinate the group rotate periodically. The current WMG OPs are Women in Europe for a Common Future (WECF) and Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era (DAWN) supported by a core group including the Women's Environment and Development Organization(WEDO) and Global Forest Coalition (GFC).
