Climate Change

This is a discussion space for the topic of climate change.

The world has finally agreed that climate change is real and largely caused by human activities. Regardless of geographical location, the impact to women following a natural disaster is disproportionate.  For example, after Katrina, many women were forced into overcrowded housing, increasing episodes of domestic violence.  Some women were forced to return to former abusers to seek shelter.  And many lost their support systems, as family and friends re-located.

Around the world, women in most households are responsible for food, fuel, and water.  In a disaster, more time is spend on these things, giving less available time for education, health and family.

This is a discussion space to exchange ideas about climate change and the impact on women.  What kind of strategies, preventative and after a disaster strikes, can be done to mitigate climate change and it's disproportionate effects to women?  How are women part of the solution?

le changement climatique et la sante

It is sad that the people in Bududa have again been buried by landslides. Government is a bit lax on this . People were warned about the eminent landslide but no action as taken. These are the isues of environmental degradation and high carrying capacity of the land. Bududa is a mountainous area. http://www.skynews.com.au/world/article.aspx?id=765173&vId=

Climate change happens in different ways, ranging from increased climate variability and gradual changes in temperature and precipitation, to increased frequency and intensity of extreme events.

Climate change affects everyone. But worst hit will be those who are already vulnerable.

Climate change impacts affect people differently depending on their livelihoods and socio-economic status.

People depending on climate-sensitive livelihoods and poor or marginalized groups, with limited access to resources and information sharing, are the most affected by climate change.

In some environments, changes may be so drastic that farmers are forced to diversify their livelihoods to secure income.

A former farmer in Bolivia describes why he became a road worker.

SEDA is trying to create a sustainable future of community. Farmers are forced to diversify their livelihood to secure income and they became a road worker because lack of sustainable income. Our Natural Ecosystem is affected by Global and regional changes in Climate.  Global or Regional or country or state awareness campaign about the importance and urgency of Sustainable development on the Road to cities and Villages in India or Manipur. We need to promote pillars of Sustainability. I.e. Economy, Society and Environment are the pillars of Sustainability.  . No nation can escape injury when global biological systems are damaged. We must recognize the earth’s limited capacity to provide for us.

And in this case, it would be a drastic increase in the forest cover, improvement in water levels, better generation of agricultural crops, and improvement in livestock and better food security for the people. The law income and disadvantaged communities, residing in Manipur are open to increasing economic risk (Poverty) besides facing the hard consequences of natural disaster and climate change. Deforestation can lead the loss of livelihood for the communities due to land degradation. The world has finally agreed that climate change is real and largely caused by human activities. Environmentalists and many leading scientists believe that we are depleting and degrading the earth’s natural capital at an accelerating rate as our population and demands on the earth’s resources and natural processes increase exponentially.

The Goal of the project is to enhance the environmental and social benefits accruing from the municipal grand economic activity of solid waste management. It will streamline the existing primary collection system for municipal solid waste in Imphal and extend it city-wide, through establishing a local policy and institutional framework and integrate through a local SWM notification and setting up appropriate institutional forms (cooperative/s), urban poor who have been traditionally dependent on recyclables in solid waste management. It will streamline management and capacity-building systems for the primary collection agents (cooperative/s) and facilitate the creation of communication mechanisms/ forums and materials for citizens/ generators/ SWM units to interact with the primary collection agents through the Imphal Municipal Council.

Chers amis,

Nos reflexions, nos discusions doivent aboutir a des propositions des solutions suxceptibles a sumonter ce defis de changements climatique. La mobilisation des fonds, des recherches, des planifications qui peuvent etre regionales, sous regionales, ainsi que la mise en oeuvre sont tres importantes pour des resultats positifs en rapport a nos discusions et reflexions. Cela est mon point de vue. Le group devra ainsi etre subdivise en quatre sous groupes;

- Group 1 La mobilisation des fonds

- Group 2 Les recherches

- Group 3 La planification
